William Larry Braden age 72 of Strunk, Kentucky passed from this life on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, Tennessee.
He was born June 9, 1949 in Strunk, Kentucky to the late Earl Braden and Beulah (Cooper) Braden. Along with his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his grandparents, Oda & Pearl (Stephens) Cooper and Marshall & Pernia (Blankenship) Braden; a brother, Gary Braden & wife, Judy, his sister, Wilma “June” Chaney & her husband, Dean; his father-in-law, Ralph Stephens; his first wife, Donna K. Wilson and her parents, Richard “Dick” & Pauline “Toot” (Miller) Wilson.
Leaving behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Sharon (Stephens) Braden; children, Stephanie Norfleet & husband, Larry, of Kokomo, Indiana and Joseph “Joey” Braden & wife, Whitney, of Pine Knot, Eric Murphy & Christina of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Jason & Kelly Murphy of Indian Trail, North Carolina; his mother-in-law, Mary Stephens; a special niece, Jennifer Bailey; and special nephews, Barry Braden, Greg Chaney, and Doug Chaney.
Larry also leaves behind the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Tristen Norfleet, Sophie Norfleet, Alyssa Norfleet, Kolton Braden, Carter Braden, Madison Murphy, Ava Murphy, and Mason Murphy; and his dogs his loved, BJ & TT.
Larry was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Army from September 1969 until September 1970 in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. During his enlistment, he received several medals. Twenty years ago, Larry suffered 2 debilatatering strokes. Prior to that, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, and going to Bluegrass Festivals. After his stroke, he enjoyed watching westerns and going to his son’s and grandson’s baseball games. Larry also enjoyed listening to his son-in-law and grandson, Tristen, play bluegrass music and his daughter, Stephanie, sing. Regardless when or where, Larry always loved to be with his family and spend time with them, especially his grandbabies. Larry will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Taylor officiating. Burial is to follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 115 of Stearns. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday after 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home.
