Vernon Lay

Vernon Lay age 80 of Pine Knot, Kentucky passed from this life on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Baptist Health of Corbin. 

He was born on February 18, 1939 in McCreary County, Kentucky to the late Mike and Alice Lay. In addition to his parents, Vernon is preceded in death by his wife, Izetta (Berry) Lay; brothers, Junior, George, Harrison, and Harold Lay; and sisters, Arizona Perkins, Olli Bell Spradlin, Christine Martin, Rosethel “Rose” Richmond, and Cora Neal. 

Surviving family include his children, Sue Sizemore (and Randy) of Pine Knot, Ronald Lay (and Yvonne) of Eubank, Kentucky, Lonnie Lay (and Mindy) of Pine Knot, Wayne Lay (and Tonya) also of Pine Knot, and Wayne Lay (and Frances) of Michigan; grandchildren, Amy, Sarah, Wendy, Jason, James, Anthony, Jonathon, Francesca, Michael, and Alexandra ; and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Ryan, Ricky, Jaxon, Kyrie, and Alexa. 

Vernon was of the Church of God Faith. He has worked in the sawmill as a Logger and enjoyed talking on his CB Radio. Vernon also enjoyed playing horseshoes and caring for his chickens, but his greatest joy was his spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed. 

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the East Pine Knot Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
