Obituary: Timothy H. Taylor
Timothy H. Taylor died at his home, Good Spring Farm, on April 4th, 2010. Tim was surrounded by his family who survive him: Peg Taylor, his wife; his son Richard and daughter Kathryn Brinegar (Doug) and grandchildren Todd Taylor (Debbie) and Jennifer Taylor. Other surviving family members include Laura and Bill Zaspel, Tom and Caroline Payne, Ashley Cooper and Amanda Bentley (Josh). Tim was predeceased by his parents, Grant and Allen Darr Taylor and brothers and sisters, Martha Ball, Ellen Young, James, George and Richard Taylor. His first wife, Andree Errara, whom he married in Paris, France in 1945, died in 1981 in Lexington. Tim was born in Sawyer, Kentucky on July 4th, 1918 on Good Spring Farm which has been in his family for more than 150 years. . Following army service in World War II , he was graduated from the University of Kentucky with BS and MS degrees in soil science and earned his Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State University. He returned to UK in 1955 to teach soil science, and to research forages and grassland ecology until he retired in 1986. While in Lexington Tim helped to found the Unitarian Universalist Church and was committed to civil rights and the Democratic Party. Tim's passion in later years was to restore Good Spring Farm's pastures and forest. When Tim returned to Sawyer in 1987 to live on Good Spring Farm he served as a Commissioner of the Eagle Sawyer Fire House and for many years he served on the Soil Conservation District Board for McCreary County. Tim bequeathed his body to the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Tim treasured his roots in McCreary County; his ashes will be interred at Mill Creek Cemetery. There will be a memorial service at Good Spring Farm on July 4, 2010. Donations in his memory to Berea College or Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
