RODGER RAY LEYDIG

October 15, 1942 — August 24, 2006

Mr. Rodger Ray Leydig, age 63, of Strunk, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2006, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Cyrus Byrd officiating. Interment was in the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery where military honors were presented by the United States Army and the Kinne Slaven Post 115 of the American Legion.

He was born October 15, 1942, at Hyndman, Pennsylvania, the son of John Ray and Nettie McCormick Leydig. He was married to Molly Cornett Leydig on June 9, 1963. Mr. Leydig retired from the United States Army after serving 21 A½ years. He was a staff sergeant and served during the Vietnam conflict. Among the medals and awards he received were the Army Good Conduct, Vietnam Medal Set, National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, several Army Commendation Medals, Driving Certificate, Non-Commendation Medal, several training certificates and as well as the Honorable Discharge and Certificate of Retirement. He enjoyed baseball, old cars and in his younger years he like to race his cars.

Preceding him in death are his father and a brother Franklin E. Leydig. Surviving family include his wife, Molly Leydig of Strunk, KY, his mother Nettie McCormick of Greencastle, PA, two sons Robert (and Christina) Leydig of Piqua, OH, and Jeffery (and Laura) Leydig of Stearns, KY, and a daughter Laura (and Charles) Maxey of Strunk, KY. He has one surviving brother Edward Leydig of Burnsville, NC, and two sisters-in-law Pat Leydig of Burnsville, NC, and Sandra Leydig of Greencastle, PA. Rodger and Molly had 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. There are also several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews to mourn his passing.
