ROBERT CORDELL

Mr. Robert Cordell, age 76, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 25, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Strunk officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 a€" 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials take form of contributions to the Pine Knot Cemetery Fund for upkeep of the cemetery.

Mr. Cordell was a self-employed excavating contractor and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed traveling and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was born in Pine Knot on March 4, 1935. He was the son of the late Brassfield and Audry Meadows Morrow. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Herbert Cordell, a sister Fayrene Wilkey, a step-sister Mildred Day and step-brother John Morrow.

Surviving family include his wife Retha Jones Cordell whom he married on November 5, 1960. Retha and Robert made their home in Kodak, Tennessee, and had a home in Somerset. His children are Kirby (and Nola) Cordell, Rhonda Cordell, and Robin (and Duane) Adams, all of Somerset. His grandchildren are Karmen Cordell(and Matt) Teague and Kyle Cordell, Tarin, Kelsie and Katie Adams, Tessa Ritter and Jessica Lear. Full siblings are Tommy Morrow and Patricia Majors of Dayton, Tennessee and Lorene Porter, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Step-brothers and sisters are Jim Morrow, Merlie Fairchild, and Ruth Mickle of Evansville, Tennessee, Bob Morrow of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Peggy Crawley of Chattanooga, Wanda Garrison, Pheobe Frazier, Jamie Arnold all of Dayton, Tennessee. Robert leaves behind many cousins and other family members as well as numerous friends that will surely miss him.
