Opal Duncan Taylor, age 83, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at her home in Strunk, Kentucky.
Born in Strunk, Kentucky, on May 7, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Ale and Versie (Spradlin) Duncan. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Claude “Toad” Taylor, three sons: Stanley Jewel, Ira Ivan Neal and Jamie Taylor, four brothers: Ronald, Lenville, Casper and Crawford Duncan, a sister, Shirley Duncan and a grand-daughter, Opal Rosaleen Perry.
Surviving family include a son, Michael Shawn Neal of Strunk, two daughters: Betty Jewel (and Steve DeBord) of Strunk, Mary Jewel (and Gary King) of Strunk, two brothers: Luther Duncan of Strunk and A.Y. (and Marilyn) Duncan also of Strunk, two sisters: Barbara Duncan Barnett (and Kelly) of Ohio and Bonnie Duncan Stephens (and Morris) of Winfield, Tennessee, nine grandchildren: Staci Nicole Daugherty-Meadows, Pamela Gail Jones, Ira Shannon Jewel, Jamie Faye Smith, Gary Ale King, Michaela Paige Neal (and her mother Rita who was also Opal’s caregiver), Tamra Desiray Perkins, and Abigail Deshae Perkins.
Her step-children are: Jerry Taylor, Jeffery Taylor and wife, Cindy, Jacob Taylor, Cheryl Hill, Penny Kennedy (deceased) and husband, Donald, Joy Taylor and companion, Dave Hibbard, Janet Martin and companion, Larry Warman, Judy Corder, Joetta Taylor, Jill Gaffney.
Opal had been a factory worker having worked at the shirt factory in Stearns, the Glove factory and glass factory in Oneida and the Batesville Casket Company. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, gardening and loved working with her flowers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Mt. Pleasant United Baptist Church with Bro. Norman Burk and Bro. Morris Stephens officiating. Burial will be at the Opal Duncan Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Pine Knot Funeral Home.
