Mrs. Nina Ruth Stephens, age 80, of Pine Knot passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012 at the McCreary Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hayes Creek Church of God with Bro. Harvey Logan, Bro. Tim Stephens and Bro. Jim Stephens officiating. Burial will be at the Hayes Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until funeral time.
Mrs. Stephens had worked at McCreary Manufacturing for 32 years. She had also worked at American Greetings in Corbin and the glove factory in Oneida. She was a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God and had attended since she was a little girl. Her family was her everything. She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking.
Mrs. Stephens was born in the Creekmore community of McCreary County, Kentucky, on December 15, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Frona Ramsey Baird. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Eldridge Coy Stephens, a son Jerry Wayne Stephens, three brothers; Elmer, Estel, and Fremon Baird, and two sisters; Elizabeth Kangas and Sue Carol Baird, a sister-in-law Virginia Baird King and brother-in-law Donald King.
Surviving family include a son Jackie (and Donna) Stephens of Pine Knot, daughter-in-law Eva Stephens, Stinnett, Kentucky, two brothers; Emory (and Faye) Baird, Strunk, Leamon (and Ethel) Baird of Pine Knot, five sisters; Marie (and Charles) Ross, Revelo, Betty (and Vann) Craft, Louisville, Mary Magdalene (and Harry) Knieriem, Louisville, Edlene King, Whitley City, and Sally Baird, Whitley City, sister-in-law Geneva Baird Duncan, Oneida, and brothers-in-law Charles David Baird, Georgetown and Dennis Kangas, Louisville. There are four grandchildren; Jamie (and Jesus) Cabrera, Coby (and Courtney) Stephens, Jeremy Stephens and Keisha (and Colby) Sexton.
