MAYNARD C. STEPHENS

October 21, 1938 — July 13, 2010

Maynard C. Stephens, age 71, of Strunk, Kentucky, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Byrge and Rev. Stanley Taylor officiating. Burial will be at the Jones Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 a€" 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born October 21, 1938, at Creekmore, McCreary County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Millard "Ned" and Martha Jane "Mattie" Perry Stephens. Also preceding him in death are two sons Glenn and Christopher Ryan Stephens, a son-in-law Jesse Wilson, his brothers Gilbert, Curtis, Dillard, and Charles Stephens, and two sisters Betty Byrge and Dorothy Gregory.

Surviving family include his wife Eula Belt Stephens whom he married October 18, 1976 in Huntsville, Tennessee, four daughters Arlene Smith of Lake Wales, Florida, Phronsie Wilson of Winfield, Charlene (and James) Martin of Oneida, and Shonda (and Rick) Trammell of Winfield. There are six sons, Morris (and Robin) Stephens of Winfield, Gregory Stephens of Winfield, Shane (and Lisa) Stephens of Oneida, Stacy (and Pat) Stephens of Winfield, Maynard, Jr. (and Stephanie) Stephens, of Strunk, and James (and Donna) Stephens of Winfield. His step-children are Conley Jarvis of Virginia and Wanda (and Joe) Kelly of Connersville, Indiana. There is a sister, Christine Stephens McNeil of Independence, KY. Maynard leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren, and a very special friend Jack Beasley.

Maynard had been an engineer and general building contractor. He was a member of the Gumfork Community Baptist Church. He helped build that church and taught Bible School and Sunday School there. He will be greatly missed, but our loss is Heaven's gain.
