Mary Ruth Stephens, age 72, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, December 4, 2015, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.
Mary Ruth was born in Jellico, Tennessee, on May 2, 1943, the daughter of Simon and Jassie (Selvia) Webb. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving family include her husband Michael Brent Stephens, of Whitley City whom she married May 19, 1961, a son Michael Webb Stephens (and wife Cindy) of Shelbyville, Kentucky, daughters: Elizabeth Ubelhor (and husband John) of Stamping Ground, Kentucky, Rebekah Terry (and husband Mark) of Stafford, Virginia and Susan Stephens of Williamsburg, Kentucky, a sister, Selvia Jean Wilson and four grandchildren: Jaesylin, and Sophie Stephens and Lauren and Matthew Terry.
She was a retired school teacher for 30 years from the McCreary County School Board having a loving compassion for teaching children. She was a member of the Walkers Chapel Baptist Church, a board member on the McCreary County Public Library, the Basket Guild, and the Christian Care Center. She was a Master Seamstress, volunteered for the Reading is Fundamental Program was active with the U.K. Extension Program. Most importantly she was a pastor’s wife and was actively involved in all aspects of the church. She loved people and was a friend to many.
Family graveside services were held on Sunday December 6, 2015,
at 11:00 am at the Wright Cemetery.
Pine Knot Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
