Mary Louise Slavey

Mary Louise (Wood) Slavey age 85 of Strunk, Kentucky passed from this life on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at her granddaughter's home in Pine Knot. 

She was born November 4, 1937 in McCreary County, Kentucky to the late Virgil John Wood and Pina (Marcum) Wood.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her step-mother, Reba Wood; her husband, John Slavey; her first husband and father of her children, Calvin Miller; a son, Thomas Miller; a daughter, Glenda Sue Miller; brothers, Theo, Larry, Nicholas, and Timothy Wood; and sisters, Julie Elaine Wood, Lela Florence Wood, and Linda Sue Wood.

Surviving family include her children, David Miller (and Rita) of Stearns, Rick Miller (and Jacklyn) of Whitley City, William Miller of Stearns, Chris Slavey (and Deliah) of Strunk, Rose Hill (and Richard) of Pine Knot, and Willa Miller "Twitty" of Stearns; brothers, Ancil Wood and Lonnie Wood; sisters, Willa Fay Lay (and James), Lois Jeannette Wood, Reba Vicki Lesh (and John) and Wanda Diane Myers; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. 

Mary was a member of the Pine Knot United Baptist Church and always enjoyed attending services. Mary was well known in Oneida as well as Whitley City for the many years she devoted to McDonalds. As long as she was able, she was working and enjoyed every moment of it. In her own time, she loved to be outdoors, camping and taking picnics. Mary also liked to play horseshoes and card games, especially phase 10 and 5 crowns. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dwayne Perry officiating. Burial to follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
