Mr. Leslie Neal, age 91, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at his home in Pine Knot, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Harvey Logan officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Neal Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 a" 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Neal was born March 13, 1922, at Creekmore, Kentucky. His parents were Ewell and Martha (Cox) Neal. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Jep, Billy, Oscar, Henry, Francis, Lloyd, Hurstle and Leonard Neal and sisters Vina Meadows and Laura Laxton.
Surviving family include his long time companion Rosie Bell, two sons; Lester Wayne Neal of Martinsville, Indiana and Audis Neal (and wife Glenda) of Mesquite, Texas, 5 grandchildren; Bruce (Stacey) Neal, L.A. (Stephanie) Neal, Jeremy (Christina) Neal, Katrina Neal and Keith Neal and 8 great grandchildren; Michael, Matthew, Jeff, Arianna, Tammy, Daniel, Cody and Candelara Neal. He has only one surviving brother; Woodrow Neal and wife Pauline of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Les had worked as a carpenter among other things. He was a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God and lifetime member of the Kinne Slaven Post 115 of the American Legion. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was most proud of receiving the Army Good Conduct Medal along with the Purple Heart. He loved to play the guitar and sing. He enjoyed traveling and seeing the country especially the mountains. His most enjoyable moments was when he got to spend time with family and friends, on what he called "The Big Day".
