Ledford C. Stephens, age 78, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015, at the McCreary Health and Rehab Center in Pine Knot.
Ledford had worked for Mid-State Automotive Rebuilders in Somerset from 1982 until his retirement. He previously worked at Copeland’s Refrigeration in Sidney, Ohio, before moving back home to McCreary County. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Sulfur Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cutting firewood. He will be remembered as a father that loved and cared for his children and as a person who cared for and helped others.
He was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, on March 31, 1937, the son of the late Floyd Sampson and Myrtle Sophia (Rowe) Stephens. He is preceded in death by his parents along with a daughter Melissa "Missy" Stephens, two brothers: Herman and Richard Stephens and four sisters: Georgia Farmer, Kathleen Campbell, Eva Moore and Reva Stephens.
Surviving family include four daughters: Theresa Chamberlin (and Tom) of Sidney, Ohio, Robin Soloman (and Terry) of Ball Ground, Georgia, Loretta Moses of Strunk, Kentucky, Faye Duncan (and Scott) of Strunk, and a son James Smith (and Sherrie) of Manchester, Kentucky. He has one surviving brother, Donald Stephens of Pine Knot, and four sisters: Edna Wright of Pine Knot, Noneda Barnett of Pine Knot, Marie Bradley of Sidney, Ohio, and Irene Stephens of Pine Knot.
He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Chad Chamberlin, Chasity Chamberlin, Kimberly Reed, Lesley Strunk, Ashley Lay, Lauren Chamberlin, Rachel Goad, Tanner Stephens and Ryan Smith, and 16 great grandchildren: Marcus Chamberlin, Jace Chamberlin, Meghan Chamberlin, Haylee Klibovits, Olivia Reed, Jazmyn Reed, Madison Strunk, Katie Strunk, Hayden Lay, Halle Lay, Weston Goad, Tanner West, Ashland Stephens, Emma Price, Kadence Duncan and Bailey Duncan.
Funeral services: Monday, July 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., at the Sulphur Spring Church in Pine Knot
Burial: Upper Cal Hill Cemetery
Visitation: Sunday from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Pine Knot Funeral Home and Monday from 12:00 noon until time for services at the church.
