James Harrison Anderson, D.M.D., passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was 77 years old.
A memorial service was held Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Jim Cmolik officiating. His remains was interred at the Anderson Cemetery in Strunk, Kentucky.
"Doc Jim" Anderson was born January 30, 1936, in Revelo, Kentucky, to the late Jerome and Nola (Ball) Anderson. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Jay Anderson and a sister, Judy Anderson.
Surviving family include a daughter Judy Sither (and Richard) of Nicholasville, KY and two sons Russell Barry Anderson of Russell Springs, KY, and Jeffrey Anderson of Lexington, KY; two brothers Roger Anderson, Strunk, KY, and Gary Anderson (and Glenna), Pine Knot; and four sisters; Joyce Martin (and Hershel), Cincinnati, OH, Janice Love (and Kyle), Louisville, KY, Helen Slaven, OH, and Debbie Vanhoose (and Larry), Somerset, KY. He had two grandchildren Brittany Anderson and Jeffrey Summers, and a special friend Linda C. King.
Dr Anderson served in the United States Navy for four years and was an amateur boxer while there. After returning home, he began his studies at the University of Louisville where he earned his Doctorate in Dental Medicine degree. He operated his own business in Pine Knot from1965 until he retired in 1998. He served on the University of Kentucky dental staff for six or seven years.
Doc enjoyed flying and owned his own plane. He had been a member of the Kiwanis Club and was instrumental in the development of the McCreary County Airport. He took regular fishing trips to Canada every year for 30 years and he liked to hunt as well. He loved his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.
