George W. Haynes, age 81, of Strunk, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at the McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Knot Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening after 6:00 at the funeral home.
Born in Warren County, Kentucky, on March 17, 1932, George was the son of the late Tommie and Metta (Lowe) Haynes. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Leroy and Leon Haynes, sisters Lurlene Wheeler and Lorene Haynes, three infant sisters and an infant brother.
Surviving family include his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Jean (Smith) Haynes whom he married on August 4, 1956, a son Michael (and Judy) Haynes of Indianapolis, three daughters; Judy Fancher of Camby, Indiana, Pamela (and Barry) Bacon of Dixon, Illinois and Teresa (and Richard) Camden of Oxford, Ohio. George and Bonnie were blessed with ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren with two on the way. Special nieces and nephew are Martha, Doris and Gary, the children of his brother, Leon.
George had been a carpenter, having worked 41 years in Indianapolis before retiring to McCreary County. He was a simple man and loved a simple life. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching football, basketball, wrestling and Nascar. Mostly he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He assured the people he loved that he was going home to be with Elbert, his buddy.
