It is with great sadness the family of Elmer L. Stephens of Stearns, Kentucky, announces that he has received his angel wings on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 14 days.
He will be remembered by his loving wife of 45 years, Norma (King) Stephens and his children: Coy Lee Stephens of Whitley City, Kentucky, John Paul (and Rose) Stephens of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Larry Ray (and Diane) Stephens of Pine Knot, and step-daughter, Brenda Gail (and the late Jerry Sexton) of Corbin, Kentucky.
Grandchildren are: Teresa Foster of Corbin, Paula Meadows of Pine Knot, Jennifer Kidd of Whitley City, Vern Foster of Pinehurst, North Carolina, James Stephens of Stearns, Melissa Maxwell of Stearns, Tamara Jackson of Richmond, Kentucky and Kim Whitehead of Stearns. There are 20 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Betty Maynard of Tazewell, Tennessee, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death are his parents: Fed Stephens and Hattie M. King. Siblings: Eliphus Stephens, Gene Stephens, Roscoe Stephens, Elma Stephens, Stella Laxton and a half sister: Myrtle Wheeler.
Elmer had worked for D. H. Campbell, Inc., driving a truck and hauling coal. He worked for the McCreary County School Board as a janitor for the schools. He was a member of the East Stearns Church of God. He enjoyed working and doing yard work and was always busy. He liked to go to singings, but mostly he loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Taylor and Wayne Inman officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Pine Knot Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
