Mr. Clovis D. Jeffers, age 86, of London, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at the Oak Tree Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Hayes Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until time for services.
Mr. Jeffers was born on February 18, 1927, in Barron Fork, Kentucky, to the late Starlin and Sadie (Neal) Jeffers. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers; Cornelius, Curtis, Costa, Virgil Clyde and Charles Jeffers and a sister Mary Ada Jeffers.
Surviving family include one brother Clifton Jeffers of Harlan, Kentucky and one sister Thelma Jean (and Ledford) Baird of Pine Knot, as well as a sister-in-law Margie Jeffers of Hartford, Kentucky. There are several nieces and nephews.
Clovis retired from Great Lakes Steel in Michigan in 1983 and later moved back to Kentucky where he worked as a courier for Affiliated Computer Services in London, Kentucky for 13 years. He was drafted into the Navy for a short time during WWII and served in the Army during the Korean War where he earned the Commendation Medal, a very distinguished award for bravery and heroism. He was a mason in the Masonic Lodge in London and enjoyed playing pool in his leisure time. He was a good-hearted person and a very good brother, and cared for people around him. He will be greatly missed.
