Bennie Jerald Stephens

Bennie Jerald Stephens, age 55, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away at the UK Medical Center on Sunday, October 17, 2021, with his family by his side.

He was born March 13, 1966 in Pine Knot, Kentucky to the late Geneva Kathleen (Stephens) Campbell. He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Air Force and was employed at the Morgan County Correctional Complex for many years.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by step-father Elmus Leroy Campbell, brother Ronald Lay, brother Kelly Dale Campbell, nephew Joseph Lay, niece Tina Genoe, brother-in-law Randy Bryant, and brother-in-law Bobby Genoe.

Surviving family include: daughter Ashley Ellis(and Landon) of Cookeville, Tennessee; Sisters; Reva Bryant of Whitley City, Kentucky, Tammy Perry of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Joyce Howard of Pine Knot, Wanda Neal (and husband Earl) of Connersville, Indiana; and brother Danny Lay of Whitley City, and sister-in-law Linda Lay of Pine Knot. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends to mourn his passing.

Bennie had a passion for singing, with a beautiful voice. He enjoyed karaoke and singing with all his friends and family. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed sports related activities. His kindness and his powerful voice will be remembered and missed by all.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Ledford and Bro. Larry Fults officiating. Burial will follow at the Upper Cal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
