ALVIS "MIKE" GARLAND

Alvis "Mike" Garland, age 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Pine Knot on Wednesday, August 07, 2013.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 9, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Roundtop United Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 noon until time for services.

Mike was born on September 4, 1951 in McCreary County. He was the son of Nelson and Alice (Richardson) Garland. His parents precede him in death. He has two sisters that are also deceased; Emma Riggs and Mary D. Garland.

He has four children: Wendell Hollis (and Ann) of Stearns, Christie Garland of Bronston, Judy Burton of Pine Knot and Alvis Mitchell Garland Jr. "Bub" of Pine Knot. He has 12 grandchildren and one that is deceased.

His brothers are Johnny Garland, Eddyville, KY, Don Garland, LaGrange, KY, and Curtis Garland, Whitley City. His surviving sisters are; Beverly Steele, Pine Knot, Peggy Douglas, Pine Knot, Carol Jackson, Oneida, TN, Brenda Lewis, Stearns, Vonda Courtney, Whitley City and Freida Garland Bryant, Pine Knot, and many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Mike had been a farmer before becoming disabled and had been a member of the Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed nothing more than coon hunting and doing anything outdoors. He will be most remembered by his great sense of humor that everyone loved.
