Alma Neal, age 78, of Pine Knot, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 1, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Hayes Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Alma was born September 14, 1932, at Corder Flats, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Coy and Hazel Cornelius Baird. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters Wilma Hinkle, Joyce Cox, Sheila Baird and Phyllis Baird, and three brothers Artle, Rolland, and Jack Baird.
Surviving family include a daughter Judy Gail Braden of Revelo, two sons Jerry (and Melinda) Neal of Pine Knot, and Donnie Neal also of Pine Knot, two brothers J.B. Baird of Ohio and Chuck Baird of Williamsburg. There are eight grandchildren: Charles Neal, Barry Braden, Jack Neal, Tami Starrett, Joy Smith, Jennifer Braden, Justin Neal and Whitney Braden, and 13 great grandchildren: Taylor, Leah, Zack, Jakob, Jonah, Morgan, Logan, Daysha, Skylar, Caden, Emma, Colton, and baby Neal. Alma leaves behind a very special friend Carol Smiddy.
Alma had been a self-employed seamstress and had worked at McCreary Manufacturing at Stearns for many years. She once owned and operated the Corner CafAC. at Pine Knot before retiring to enjoy fishing and gardening. She was a collector of miniature souvenir boots and shoes. She had been a member of the Davis Hill Church of God.
